Bio

Edward Zimmerman is the President of The Food Connector, a sales and marketing company serving the wholesale food industry. The Food Connector works with food manufacturers, distributors, restaurant operators and grocery retailers to plan and execute marketing and sales services. Born and raised in Baltimore, Md., Edward’s career in the food industry spans more than 35 years.

His early work in restaurant and catering operations prepared Edward for understanding the operations side of the food industry. During a five-year stint in the grocery industry, he entered a management trainee program and was soon promoted to division manager for a 14-store chain. As Deli/Bakery Manager, Edward set up and managed in-store operations.

At Ms. Desserts, a wholesale bakery, Edward held several management positions over a 13 year period. He began as Production Manager for the 150-person bakery, moved to General Manager of distribution, and then became the company’s National Sales Manager where he tripled sales by changing the bakery’s channel strategy.

After Ms. Desserts’ acquisition by an international corporation, Edward joined Neumeier Associates, a national food industry consulting organization. His specialties were Organizational Design, Succession Planning, Sales Training and Marketing Consulting.

In 1996, Edward helped found Bellissimo Foods, a foodservice marketing cooperative that became the largest pizzeria distribution network in the United States. Since then Edward has possibly sold, marketed, and tasted more pizza ingredients then anyone in the United States. At Bellissimo, Edward launched more than a dozen product brands over several categories and facilitated distributor growth through innovative sales and marketing strategies.

Edward was the founder and CEO of Successfoods® Marketing, a marketing services and technology firm. He began the company as an outsourced marketing firm to food manufactures and distributors and developed two dozen services. After seven years at Successfoods® Edward focused on program management efforts and strategic accounts. As an example, Edward’s program to market Real California mozzarella cheese to the foodservice industry produced growth of more than 1000 per cent, from 50 million pounds to 800+ million pounds per year, which established California as the largest mozzarella producer in the world.

A dynamic speaker, Edward captures audiences with a mixture of fun, facts and personal challenges for improvement. A well-known and respected sales trainer, he has developed several programs for food sales representatives designed to increase sales and improve customer relationships.

Edward holds a B.S. in Economics and an M.S. in Administrative Management. Married to his wife Elaine for more than 25 years, they live in Marin County, California with their son Justin. Edward enjoys the outdoors, reading, investing, wine tasting and volunteer work on behalf of organizations that feed the hungry.
